POSITION

 

The Board supports the work of Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun (RTVOS) and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by RTVOS’s Executive Director (E.D.), the Board-E.D. relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include: 


Leadership, governance, and oversight

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to the E.D. as he develops and implements RTVOS’s strategic plan

  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by RTVOS for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings

  • Approving RTVOS’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Contributing to annual performance evaluation of the E.D.

  • Assisting the E.D. and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members

  • Partnering with the E.D. and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out

  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments

  • Representing RTVOS to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization

  • Ensuring RTVOS’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities RTVOS serves


FUNDRAISING

RTVOS Board Members will consider RTVOS a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. RTVOS relies on Board Member donations in order to solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals. RTVOS expects all Board Members to make a personally meaningful annual contributions at whatever level is appropriate for the individual. Additionally, Board Members are expected to facilitate new gift opportunities and actively steward potential and current donors.
