To keep our neighbors safe and healthy at home. We engage community partners and volunteers in the revitalization of neighborhoods. Through home repair, modifications, and improvements, we enable economically disadvantaged homeowners to live a safer, more independent, and comfortable life.
We are committed to helping distressed communities and families, seniors, disabled and veteran homeowners whose income is near the federal poverty guideline. We respect the integrity and strengths of all people.
We are a safe and healthy housing-centered community revitalization organization that values the importance of volunteer engagement.
We believe people deserve respect, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status, and seek to promote an organizational diversity reflective of our community.
We value collaboration with other organizations with shared goals.
We strive to meet the highest standards in the services we deliver.
The Board will support the work of Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun (RTVOS) and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by RTVOS’s Executive Director (E.D.), the Board-E.D. relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
Leadership, governance, and oversight
• Serving as a trusted advisor to the E.D. as s/he develops and implements RTVOS’s strategic plan
• Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by RTVOS for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
• Approving RTVOS’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
• Contributing to annual performance evaluation of the E.D.
• Assisting the E.D. and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
• Partnering with the E.D. and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
• Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
• Representing RTVOS to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
• Ensuring RTVOS’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities RTVOS serves
RTVOS Board Members will consider RTVOS a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that RTVOS can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, RTVOS expects all Board Members to make a personally meaningful annual contribution. Additionally, Board Members are expected to facilitate new gift opportunities and actively steward potential and current donors.
RTVOS’s Board Members will serve a two-year term and be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Board meetings will be held monthly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about RTVOS’s mission and who has a track record of leadership. Selected Board Members will have experience in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
• Professional experience with accomplishments in business, construction, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector;
• A commitment to and understanding of RTVOS’s beneficiaries;
• Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals;
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of RTVOS’s beneficiaries.
